Welcome to the Terminology Course IV (Working with SDL MultiTerm)
This course aims to enhance your practical knowledge regarding the use of terminology management systems and targets professional translators, as well as translation and CAT (Computer-Aided Translation) tools teachers.
In this course, we will use SDL MultiTerm 7.x as an example of a terminology management system. Although SDL MultiTerm 7.x is the latest version of this particular application and therefore has new features compared to previous versions, the main concepts and principles on which it is based are the same. Its layout is still very similar to the one in the previous version (TRADOS MultiTerm iX).
By the end of this course you should be aware of the main characteristics, functionalities, components, additional products and versions of SDL MultiTerm. You should also be able to access local and remote termbases, navigate through MultiTerm termbases, work with termbase definitions, perform searches, use filters, and maintain MultiTerm terminology databases.
Course Structure
Terminology Course IV is divided into three sections:
- Getting to know MultiTerm: This section deals with the theoretical aspects of SDL MultiTerm, such as software characteristics, functionalities, components of the SDL MultiTerm product line, additional products and different versions.
- Working with MultiTerm: This section covers topics such as accessing local and remote terminology databases, getting to know the MultiTerm interface, browsing through termbases, working with termbase definitions, applying different search methods, and using filters.
- Termbase Maintenance: In this section you will learn how to carry out different tasks for maintaining MultiTerm terminology databases, such as: locating duplicate terms and incomplete entries, improving data entry, performing global changes, reorganising and backing up termbases.
